Stock scanner for day traders who need the move while it is still moving

A real-time stock scanner that watches the whole US stock market for you and lists only the names that match your filters: gap, relative volume, float, price, change in the last minutes. Every match can become an alert, a watchlist entry and, once you take the trade, a journal entry that remembers what the scan looked like at entry.

Real time stock scanners built for the intraday session

Most screeners refresh once a night. Our scanner works on licensed real-time US market data from 4:00 ET premarket through the 16:00 ET close, and on Pro into after hours until 20:00 ET. A row appears when a stock meets your conditions and drops off when it stops meeting them, so the list on your screen is the list right now, not the list from yesterday's close.

  • Premarket gappers ranked by gap % against the prior close, with premarket volume and float.
  • Top gainers and losers of the regular session by percent change.
  • Relative volume leaders, measured against the stock's own average for that time of day.
  • New intraday highs and lows, including breaks of the premarket high.
  • Momentum change in the last 1 and 5 minutes.
  • Trading halts and resumptions as they print.

Market scanners with filters you would actually set

A scanner is only as useful as its filters. You set the boundaries once, save the scan and reuse it every morning. Typical ranges traders use are a price between $2 and $20, a gap of at least 10%, relative volume above 3x and a float under 50M shares, but every field is yours to change.

  • Price minimum and maximum.
  • Float, in millions of shares.
  • Volume and premarket volume.
  • Gap % and change % from the prior close.
  • Relative volume (RVOL) for the time of day.
  • Average true range (ATR) in dollars or as a percent of price.
  • Sector, to exclude groups you never trade.
  • Custom formula filters on Pro, for instance change in 5 minutes divided by ATR.

A morning routine built around one scanner

A routine many active day traders settle into is short. From 7:00 to 9:00 ET they keep the premarket gappers scan open and read the news on anything above a 10% gap. Around 9:15 ET they move the three to five names with a real catalyst, decent premarket volume and a clean chart to a day trading watchlist, mark the premarket high and low, and set price level alerts. After the open the momentum scanner takes over for names that were not on anyone's list at 9:00.

The point is not to stare at a moving list for six hours. The point is to let the scanner narrow 8,000 symbols to a handful, and then put your attention where your rules say it belongs.

Relative volume is the filter most people set wrong

Raw volume favors large, liquid names that trade millions of shares every day. Relative volume compares the current volume to what the same stock usually does by this minute of the session. A stock trading 400,000 shares by 9:45 ET that normally trades 40,000 by then is at 10x and is being noticed. A stock trading 3 million shares that normally does 5 million is quieter than usual, whatever the raw number says. We calculate RVOL against the time-of-day average, so a reading at 9:35 ET is not distorted by the slow middle of the day.

What to watch out for

A scanner shows what matches your rules. It does not know whether the move is over. Low-float names can gap 60% on thin premarket volume and fade the moment the bell rings. Spreads on sub-$2 stocks can eat your stop before your entry fills. Halts can freeze a position you cannot exit. Use the scan to find candidates, then apply your own checks: catalyst, spread, level, size. The built-in position size calculator helps you size the trade to your dollar risk before you click.

Find out which of your scans actually pay

Every trade you import or log can be linked to the scan that found it. The journal stores the scan state at entry: gap %, RVOL, float, price and time. After fifty or a hundred trades the analytics tell you whether your gappers between $5 and $10 pay better than the ones above $10, or whether your RVOL threshold of 3x is too loose. That is the part a scanner on its own cannot tell you, and it is why we built the trading journal into the same tool.

Past performance and backtests do not guarantee future results. Trading involves substantial risk of loss.

FAQ

  1. Is the stock scanner real time

Yes. Paid plans run on licensed real-time US market data. The sample scan on our homepage runs on a recorded sample session, clearly labeled, so you can test the filters before you create an account.

  2. Which markets does it cover

US listed stocks on the major exchanges. Options, futures, forex and crypto are outside the scanner.

  3. How many scans can I save

Starter saves 5 scans. Pro and Desk save unlimited scans, and Desk can share scans across seats.

  4. Does the scanner tell me what to buy

No. It lists stocks that match the filters you set. It is a software tool, not investment advice, and it does not recommend trades.
