Trading alerts that watch your levels so you can stop staring at six screens
Set the condition once and get notified the moment it happens: a new stock enters your scan, price breaks the premarket high, relative volume crosses 5x, or a name reclaims VWAP. Our stock alerts app delivers to your browser, your inbox or your phone, and every alert links straight to the chart and the journal.
Four kinds of trading alerts
Most traders need only a few alert types, set precisely. These are the four we built around.
- Scan alert. Fires when a new stock starts matching a saved scan, for instance a gap above 15% with RVOL above 4x between 7:00 and 9:30 ET.
- Price level alert. Fires when price crosses a level you set: premarket high, prior day high, a round number, your stop.
- Relative volume alert. Fires when a stock on your list crosses an RVOL threshold for the time of day, a common sign that it is getting attention.
- VWAP cross alert. Fires when price crosses above or below the intraday VWAP, which many intraday traders use as a bias line.
Conditions you can combine
An alert that fires on every tick is worse than no alert. You can narrow each one.
- Time window, so a premarket alert stays quiet after 9:30 ET.
- Minimum volume since the open, so thin prints do not trigger it.
- Confirmation on a closed candle, 1 or 5 minutes, instead of the first touch.
- One-time or repeating, with a cool-down so a stock chopping around VWAP does not notify you twenty times.
- Expiry at the close, or kept for the next session.
A stock alerts app on browser, email and push
Alerts arrive where you are.
- Browser notification, with a sound you choose, when the dashboard is open.
- Email, for alerts you want on record or when you are away from the desk.
- Push to your phone, for the moments you step away during midday.
Each notification shows the symbol, the condition that fired, the price, the time in ET and the current RVOL, and opens the chart with your levels already drawn. Alerts are delivered as fast as our systems and your device allow, but delivery is never guaranteed to the second, so never rely on an alert as your only stop. Use a real stop order with your broker.
A calmer way to trade the open
A common routine replaces screen staring with a short list of alerts. Before 9:25 ET you move three to five names from the premarket gappers scan to a day trading watchlist, mark the premarket high and low, and set level alerts on both. Add a VWAP cross alert for the name you like best and an RVOL alert at 5x. Then you wait. When something fires, you look at the chart and decide according to your rules. When nothing fires, you do nothing, which is often the right trade.
Midday and afternoon alerts
Many traders step away between 11:30 and 14:00 ET. A scan alert on the momentum scanner for new highs with RVOL above 3x, plus level alerts on names that held their morning gains, lets you come back only when something is happening. On Pro the same alerts run into after hours until 20:00 ET for earnings reactions.
Alert hygiene
Too many alerts become noise and you start ignoring them. A few rules keep them useful.
- Delete alerts on names you would not trade today.
- Use closed-candle confirmation on choppy names.
- Give each alert a short note, such as "break only with volume", so you remember why you set it.
- Review which alerts led to trades and which were ignored.
Alerts that feed your journal
When you take a trade after an alert, the journal entry links to it and stores the scan state at entry: gap, RVOL, float, time and the alert type. After a few weeks you can see whether VWAP reclaim alerts lead to better trades than premarket high breaks, or whether entries after an RVOL alert at 10x are more often late. The trading journal and its analytics answer that from your own numbers.
Past performance and backtests do not guarantee future results. Trading involves substantial risk of loss.
FAQ
-
How fast are trading alerts delivered
Alerts are evaluated on licensed real-time US market data and sent as soon as the condition is met. Delivery time also depends on your browser, email provider and phone, so use broker stop orders for protection.
-
Can I get alerts on my phone
Yes. Push notifications reach your phone, and email works on any device.
-
Can an alert place a trade for me
No. Alerts notify you. We do not connect to your broker account and do not place orders.
-
Do alerts work in the premarket
Yes. Alerts run from 4:00 ET in the premarket through the close, and after hours on Pro.
-
Are alerts trading recommendations
No. An alert fires on a condition you defined. It is not investment advice.
