After hours scanner for stocks with real-time movers and alerts

An after hours scanner lists the US stocks that are moving between the 16:00 ET close and the 20:00 ET end of extended trading, ranked by percent change, volume and float. Ours streams extended hours prints on licensed real-time data, filters for the names you would really trade, alerts you by browser, email and push, and carries the same list into the next premarket so you walk into the morning with a plan.

What an after hours stock scanner shows you

Most of the money in extended hours moves on one thing, news that landed after the bell. Earnings, guidance, an offering, a trial result. A good after hours scanner has to separate real moves from noise, because a stock up 8% on 4,000 shares is not a trade.

On every row you see the numbers that decide whether to look at all.

  • Percent change from the 16:00 ET close and the price of the last print.
  • After hours volume against the average, so a thin print does not fool you.
  • Float and market cap, since a 4M float stock and a 400M float stock behave differently on the same percent.
  • Gap % against the prior close, which is the starting number for tomorrow's premarket gap scanner list.
  • Time of the last trade, so you can see when a name stopped printing.

After hours scanner alerts for the names on your list

You cannot watch four hours of extended trading. Save the filters, then turn the scan into an alert that fires when a stock crosses your percent change and volume at the same time. A push at 16:20 ET that a 12M float stock is up 15% on 300,000 shares is useful. A hundred alerts on thin penny prints is noise you will mute.

Set up an after hours stock scanner in four steps

  • Open the scanner and start a new scan with the extended hours session selected.
  • Set a minimum percent change, a minimum after hours volume and your float and price limits. Save it.
  • Turn the scan into an alert so new names reach you in the browser, by email or by push.
  • At the end of the evening copy the best names to a watchlist. They open the premarket scan the next morning with the catalyst already known.

Which sessions each plan covers

Extended hours trading runs from 4:00 to 9:30 ET before the open and from 16:00 to 20:00 ET after the close. The scanner covers premarket and regular hours on Starter. After hours scanning, until 20:00 ET, is part of Pro at $149 per month, or $74 per month billed yearly.

If you trade only the open, Starter at $49 per month does the whole job. If earnings season is where you make money, the evening session is what Pro adds.

An after hours scanner for earnings season

Most large after hours moves come from earnings releases, which land at 16:05 ET or just after. The first ten minutes decide whether a name is worth watching, because the spread is wide and the price swings both ways before volume settles.

  • Watch for volume above 10x the usual after hours level, not just a large percent.
  • Check the float. A small float stock after earnings can move 30% on a tiny order.
  • Note the gap and the after hours high and low. They become the levels you use in the morning.
  • Size down. Extended hours spreads are wide and your stop may fill far from your price. The position size calculator shows how much a gap through your stop costs.

Who pays for an after hours scanner

  • Traders who build tomorrow's watchlist from tonight's news instead of from the 8:00 ET panic.
  • Earnings traders who want a ranked list of movers and not a calendar.
  • Part-time traders with a day job who can only trade the evening session or prepare the morning.
  • Prop desks that want one shared evening list for every trader, with limits per trader on the prop trading desk plan.

Extended hours carry wider spreads

Liquidity in extended hours is thin. Spreads are wide, limit orders are the only order type most brokers accept, and a news move can reverse as fast as it came. Work out the loss before entering, not after.

See whether your evening trades pay

After 30 to 50 trades, the day trading journal answers what a scanner cannot: do you make money on after hours earnings plays, or only on the next morning's follow through. It stores gap %, relative volume and float at entry for every fill.

FAQ

  1. What is the best after hours scanner for stocks

The best one streams real-time extended hours prints, filters by percent change, volume and float, and alerts you when a name crosses your levels. DayTradingSoftware does that until 20:00 ET on Pro at $149 per month, and links the list to your premarket scan and journal.

  2. Does a stock scanner work after hours

Yes, if the data feed includes extended hours. Many free screeners show only regular session data or delay it. Ours streams real-time extended hours data on Pro, and the scanner on Starter covers premarket and regular hours.

  3. What hours does after hours trading cover

After hours trading runs from 16:00 to 20:00 ET on most US brokers. Premarket runs from 4:00 to 9:30 ET. Some brokers offer shorter windows, so check your own platform before you plan a trade.

  4. Can I scan for earnings movers after the close

Yes. Filter for a minimum percent change and an after hours volume floor, and add a float limit. The list ranks the earnings movers as they print, and an alert tells you when a new one crosses your levels.

  5. Is there a trial

There is a one-time sample scan with three visible rows and one journal entry, so you can see the scanner working before you choose a plan. No card is needed for the sample.
