Scanz alternative and Scanz pricing compared for day traders
Scanz lists Starter at $89 per month and Pro at $199 per month on its pricing page (checked October 2026), and Starter runs one scan at a time with one 20 symbol watchlist. DayTradingSoftware gives you a real-time premarket gap, low float and momentum scanner with 5 saved scans, 50 alerts and a full trading journal for $49 per month on Starter, or unlimited scans on Pro for $149, with yearly billing from $24 per month.
What traders use Scanz for
Scanz is a stock scanning platform for US markets (Nasdaq, NYSE, AMEX and OTC) with four kinds of scans: data scans, signal scans, news scans and SEC filing scans. Its strength is the news side. Real-time news and filings with advanced news filtering are part of every plan, so a trader can scan for headlines and filings the same way they scan for gaps and volume.
The plan structure matters more than most reviews admit. Scanz Starter at $89 per month runs one scan at a time, keeps one saved scan of each type and one watchlist of up to 20 symbols, in the browser and on mobile. Unlimited simultaneous scans, unlimited alerts, custom data columns and the desktop app with multi-monitor layouts start on Pro at $199 per month. Ultra at $999 per month adds concierge scan building, API access and automated trading hooks.
- Starter, $89 per month, one scan running at a time, browser and mobile.
- Pro, $199 per month, unlimited scans and alerts, desktop app, multi-monitor layouts.
- Ultra, $999 per month, API access and concierge scan development.
- A 7 day trial on Starter and Pro that needs a card and converts to paid unless cancelled.
- Annual billing is offered inside the app, with no annual price shown on the pricing page.
When Scanz fits you better
Stay with Scanz if news and SEC filings drive your trades. Filtering the news stream by keyword, scanning new filings as they post and seeing both next to price data is the core of what Scanz sells, and we do not have it. The same goes for a trader who wants a native desktop app spread across four monitors, or API access for an automated system on Ultra.
DayTradingSoftware has no news feed, no filings scanner and no desktop app. It runs in the browser. If your edge starts with the headline, keep Scanz or a dedicated news service. If your edge starts with the gap, the float and the volume, read on.
More running scans for less on the entry plan
The biggest practical gap is on the entry plan. A momentum trader rarely watches one list. A normal morning is a premarket gap list, a low float list and a halt or new high list running at the same time. On Scanz Starter that means switching one scan in and out. On our Starter you keep 5 saved scans with filters for price, float, volume, gap %, RVOL, change %, ATR and sector, and 50 active trading alerts on scan results, price levels, RVOL and VWAP crosses. Pro removes the limit on saved scans and adds custom formula filters and after hours scanning.
A journal that remembers why you took the trade
Scanz stops at the scan. Our trading journal imports executions from popular US brokers by CSV and stores the scan state at entry with every trade: gap %, RVOL, float, price and time of day. After 50 to 100 trades the analytics show which conditions you actually make money on, by setup, hour, weekday, price, float and hold time, with expectancy, profit factor and average R. A scanner shows you candidates. The journal shows you which candidates paid you.
Backtests on the scans you already run
Starter includes 20 simple backtests per month on 1 year of intraday history, Pro 200 per month on 5 years. Before you add a new filter to the morning list, test whether it would have helped. See backtesting software for how that works.

Scanz pricing next to ours over a year
| Setup | Monthly | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Scanz Starter, monthly | $89 | $1,068 |
| Scanz Pro, monthly | $199 | $2,388 |
| DayTradingSoftware Starter, monthly | $49 | $588 |

| DayTradingSoftware Pro, yearly | $74 | $888 |
| DayTradingSoftware Starter, yearly | $24 | $288 |
Scanz shows no annual rate on its pricing page, so the table uses its monthly prices times twelve. Check the in-app annual price before you compare. The fair matchup for an active trader is Scanz Pro against our Pro, since both give unlimited scans: $2,388 against $1,788 on monthly billing, or $888 on our yearly billing, and ours includes the journal and backtests.
Rebuild your Scanz data scans in ten minutes
Data scans move over directly. News and filing scans do not, so keep your news source next to the scanner. These four lists cover most momentum mornings, and the premarket gap scanner and low float scanner pages explain each filter.
- Premarket gappers. Gap at least 5%, price $2 to $20, premarket volume above 50,000 shares by 8:00 ET, RVOL above 3x.
- Low float runners. Float under 20M shares, gap at least 10%, RVOL above 5x.
- Momentum after the open. Change over 5 minutes above 2%, volume above 500,000 shares, price above VWAP.
- Halts and resumptions. Every halt as it prints, filtered by price and float.
Then import your broker CSV so the last few months of trades land in the journal with their stats. Many traders run both tools for one trial period, note which list they actually trade from, and cancel the other.
Trading risk
DayTradingSoftware is a software tool, not investment advice. Past performance and backtests do not guarantee future results. Trading small cap and low priced stocks involves substantial risk of loss.
FAQ
-
What is a good alternative to Scanz
For a trader who scans gaps, float and volume rather than news, a standalone real-time scanner with a journal is the closest alternative. DayTradingSoftware runs 5 saved scans and 50 alerts on Starter for $49 per month and unlimited scans on Pro for $149, against $89 and $199 per month for Scanz Starter and Pro.
-
How much does Scanz cost per month
Scanz lists three plans on its pricing page as of October 2026: Starter at $89 per month, Pro at $199 per month and Ultra at $999 per month. Starter and Pro come with a 7 day trial that needs a card. Annual billing is available inside the app, without a listed annual price.
-
Is Scanz worth it
Scanz is worth it if news and SEC filing scans are central to how you trade, or if you want its desktop app across several monitors on Pro. If you only run data scans for gaps and momentum, Starter limits you to one scan at a time, and Pro at $199 per month costs more than a scanner plus journal elsewhere.
-
Does DayTradingSoftware have a news scanner like Scanz
No. We do not run news or SEC filing scans. Most traders who switch read headlines in their broker platform or a news service and use our scanner, alerts and journal for the rest of the routine.
-
Is there a trial
There is a one-time sample scan with three visible rows and one journal entry, so you can see the scanner working before you choose a plan. No card is needed for the sample.
